The storm has passed, but the electricity is still in the air! StormHacks 2021, organized by SFU Surge, occurred on February 20th — 21st, bringing together over 400 hackers to learn new skills, create impactful projects, and inspire a new wave of innovation in technology. Over 50 projects were created and $7000 in prizes were awarded to our hackers who created a variety of solutions in the fields of digital interaction, environment and sustainability, and health and wellness.
The results?
The minds at StormHacks 2021 were able to produce some of the most creative, out-of-the-box projects that tackled problems facing anyone from the everyday student to executive decision makers. With so many amazing projects, we’d like to highlight some that truly encompassed the theme of ‘Learn, Create, and Inspire’:
1st Place Overall: Fairify

2nd Place Overall: InterviewBuddy.online
Job seekers may have less and less opportunities to conduct mock interviews, and this is where InterviewBuddy.space comes in. InterviewBuddy.space seeks to solve this problem by providing a mock interview AI and peer interview system.

3rd Place Overall: Umbrella
Anyone in Vancouver knows the feeling of walking outside and realizing you forgot your umbrella. The feeling of being rained down on can come in different forms, meaning both physically and mentally. Umbrella provides virtual mental health support to students that connects students to necessary mental health resources all at the touch of your fingertips.
